The MODULA Vertical Lift Module (VLM) is an Automated Storage and Retrieval  System .It is the ultimate high-density storage solution. Manage up to 60 Tonnes of materials from one convenient computer console. An entirely modular structure, the Vertical Lift Module allows you to store, locate, and pick materials for limitless types of applications. A variety of VLM models offer your choice of performance, capacity, and configuration options. Whatever you need to achieve, the MODULA Vertical Lift Module is your answer. A transporter with an extractor mechanism pulls drawers in and out and takes them up the machine and slots them away. The transporter can be chain or rubber steel belt driven. It can travel up and down at speeds of up to 2.2 metres per second with gradual acceleration and deceleration to minimise the possibility of any stock moving on the drawers. Picking stations can be internal for normal use or external which allows for product to be handled by overhead cranes or robotic arms. They can also be dual access front and rear or at different levels so that one operator can be working at one picking station while another operator can be at the other picking station. This allows you to pick and place much more quickly which is an advantage over a carousel. All models have the ability to have two drawers out one above the other so that the pick/place speeds are maximised. Drawer width ranges from 2,200 mm for MB model, 3100 mm for MX model or 4,100 mm for ML model and tray depth can be either 615 mm or 815 mm. Drawer loading can be either 250 kg or 500 kg for MB model or 250 kg, 500 kg and 750 kg for the MX model or 500kg and 750 kg for the ML model. The drawers can accommodate storage bins or can come with adjustable segregrations so you can customise the layout to maximise the space available on the drawer. The on-board intelligent computer will automatically place the drawers in suitably sized storage locations even if the position vacated at retrieval is no longer the correct height with the replenishment of products at a different height. A height detector made of photo sensors measures the tray height at the picking port to achieve this. Faster moving product can be stored lower down so that the retrieval time is faster. The Vertical Lift Module is operated by a touch-screen console backed by a PC, allowing easy access to all operational functions at any time. Software is based on Windows XP platform and can be easily integrated with an existing computer system. Drawers can be accessed by drawer number, part number, or part description. Multiple VLMs can be connected and managed using a single server. Local lock-out and tag-out disconnects are available on all VLM models, along with an emergency stop. All motors have brake locks, and all units have product height sensors and light curtain personnel protection sensors. Automatic doors are standard on all models. Structures covered with coolroom panels for outdoor installation allow  MODULA outdoor installation to exploit the height at best when your roof height or warehouse space is insufficient.
